It is said that King George V wanted his second son, Bertie to inherit the throne and, following the abdication of Edward VIII in 1936, his wish became true. Bertie became King George VI. In turn, his elder daughter, Queen Elizabeth has, like her father, continued the work of her grandfather and has magnificently demonstrated exactly how a constitutional monarchy should work and behave. Like her father before her, Queen Elizabeth has been one of the most dutiful of monarchs that a country could have.
